Houston’s Cheryl Fortune is stepping out with her single “Running to You.” This track can be played while in worship or winding down a long day at work. Production on the song (Terence Vaughn) has a Brandy-new age kind of sound. It is not your usual boompty boompty gospel sound, it is very refreshing and current, a style that James Fortune & FIYA has mastered.
She is set to release a project soon.

Jordon Baker is one of Houston’s young but very distinct voices. When you listen to his music you can hear his awesome contemporary vocal arrangements with great production quality to match. The single ‘Without You’ talks about how life is nothing without Christ. It is a great message and isn’t very ‘in your face;’ you can actually easily listen to this while driving or at work.
The song is very radio ready and can fit into both Contemporary Christian and Urban radio formats. The track is produced by Cedric “LiLCed” Smith & Nick Baker. Jordon Baker & Michael Dixon co-wrote the tune. To get the word out about his ministry, he has released an EP with five tracks. Take a listen to the single and comment below.

Gospel legend Andrae’ Crouch’s latest project, The Journey has gained a large amount of buzz the past few months. There are two Houston-based artists that contributed to the project. The song, ”Jesus Came Into My Life,” with Daniel Johnson is a standout on the masterpiece-filled project. His voice is the perfect match for the jazzy track. Also, Kim Burrell appears with Take 6 on the song “Faith.” The album is perfect for a gospel music connoisseur or someone that needs to hear fresh gospel music.
We get music sent to our inbox from gospel groups around the country, but hardly ever from those in the inspirational/R&B genre. KParker coins himself as an R&B/gospel singer. The single, “Thank You Lord,” is a very touching track that introduces his spiritual side to the world. He may have an audience with those that follow PJ Morton. Sometimes it is hard to have mellow R&B vocals amongst the more powerful gospel voices on radio but this song is very radio friendly and easy on the ears.
The Dallas born, Houston bred singer debuts his album “The Perfect Gentleman” September 12, 2011. Check out his Facebook page for updates.

Soulfruit, a group known for their eccentric performance and musical style, has released a music video for the single, “No Grudge.” The song is not saying “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, (insert scripture…)” like your average gospel song, but still connects with lyrics like “Love still works and love is still alive.”
The video focuses on normal situations that may occur in relationships and friendships. It’s underlying message is that if God doesn’t hold grudges and loves us, why can’t we? It is effective in presenting this message.
The video is very straightforward and doesn’t rely of many special effects. It is also shot in high definition. Director, Jakob Mendieta and writer Cristal Mendieta did a great job.
The only thing that could have been added to the video is a gritty outdoors scene with the group, but given the 100 degree heat in Houston, it wouldn’t have complimented the song’s East Coast feel.

So, while researching for another article, we came across a song that was released years ago but did not get the play it should’ve gotten. This happens many times though, awesome vocalists record with regional groups and choirs on projects that don’t go pass the local airwaves or fans.
The song “Come To Me” by Florida choir, LaNorris McFadden & PROOF features Nikki Ross’ vocals flowing perfectly with the music and choir vocals. It is a really good song that should’ve gotten more buzz when it was released in 2009.

Hailing from St. Louis but currently residing in Houston, TX, Ruth N. Goolsby is set to be one of the city’s foremost vocalists and musicians in praise & worship. The lead single from the project emphasizes holiness, something that is not spoken about much in gospel music currently.
The lyrics flow to the beat, “Be ye holy, for I am holy. Be ye holy, be set apart.” The song written and produced by Goolsby is very catchy and has good production.
