One of Houston’s most recognized names in gospel music made the move to New York, NY in 2011. Gary Mayes tells MyHoustonGOSPEL.com that he is working on some jazz, producing 4 projects, including his own, which is set to release this year.

When we asked about Nu Era remaining in tact, he says that the group will continue and consist of combined efforts between members in Houston, Atlanta and NYC. Gary Mayes & Nu Era is known for great songwriting, harmonies and powerhouse lead vocalists on projects over the years (Gene Moore Jr., Nakitta Foxx, Nikki Ross).

The Fountain of Praise Church will host a Reunion Concert featuring Nakitta Clegg-Foxx, Gary Mayes & Nu Era, James Fortune & FIYA and Micah Stampley. The event takes place on Friday, June 10th 7pm at Fountain of Praise Church, 13950 Hillcroft Avenue, Houston, TX 77085. There is no admission cost.

A Houston artist will join the Bonnerfide Radio Crew for their annual concert in Nashville, TN, Jan. 14 2011.  Gary Mayes will be joining the crew at an event that features Tedd Winn, Jonathan Nelson, B Slade, Tasha Cobbs and hosted by BET‘s Torrence Glenn.  Tickets are available at getbonnerfide.com.

Gary Mayes & Nu Era smashed onto radio with this tune in 2003. The song “Don’t forget the baby” features Naktita Clegg-Foxx, modulating and pleading with the listener not to forget Christ on Christmas. It’s from his “Go Tell It: The N.E. X-Perience Vol. II” project and also features Houston’s Kim Burrell and Shawn McLemore.
