Houston’s Pastor A. Louis Patterson Jr. passes away

The “Godfather” of African-American expository preaching passed away today, Rev. Dr. Albert Louis Patterson, Jr., pastor of the Mount Corinth Missionary Baptist Church – Houston, Texas. The community extended condolences today.

The church is not only known for the word from Pastor Patterson, but also its music ministry, under the direction of Kenneth Myles. Services are pending. He was interviewed this year, watch the video above for his inspiring words of wisdom.

Biography:

Dr. A. Louis Patterson, Jr. is recognized internationally as a leading expository preacher. He has been recognized three times by his peers as a “Living Legend” and has lectured to the Minister’s Division of the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education of the National Baptist Convention, U.S.A.,Inc. for the last nineteen years as a Co-laborer with C.A.W. Clark of the Good Street Baptist Church of Dallas Texas. He was recognized in the November 1993 issue of Ebony Magazine, honorably mentioned as One of America’s Greatest Black Preachers, and inducted into the Morehouse School of Religion’s Hall of preachers.

Pastor Patterson has pastored churches in California and Texas and has authored three books;Prerequisites for a Good Journey, Joy in the Journey, and Wisdom in Strange Places.

He has conducted revivals throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean. He has lectured for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Crusade, Promise Keepers, the Urban Alternative, E. K. Bailey Expository Conference, WHW Conference on Expository Preaching, the American Baptist College, L.K Williams Minister’s Institute, all four-National Baptist Conventions, 14 state conventions, and conducted 48 city-wide revivals in 25 cities.

Pastor Patterson has preached over 100 sermons to the National Baptist Convention. He has pastored Mount Corinth Baptist Church of Houston Texas for the last 36 years. He is married to Melba Lorraine and is the father of four.
