Houston gospel legend Willie Thornton passes away

Houston gospel legend Willie Thornton has passed away.

He was a charter member of the Houston Chapter of the GMWA, meeting with James Cleveland in 1967 to start the chapter. He is also known for mentoring well known artists in the gospel industry and for the composition, “God’s Way or No Way At All.”

His appreciation service last year at Mt. Corinth included many Houston artists, including Bettye Ransom-Nelson, Kim Burrell, Houston Mass Choir and Kathy Taylor.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced. We will have them as soon as they are available.
